About Blu Subsea and Why Their HR and Payroll Requirement Is Unlike Any Standard Business
Blu Subsea Diving Services LLC is one of the leading subsea and marine engineering companies in the UAE, operating from Dubai with additional offices in Abu Dhabi, Egypt and Qatar. They provide professional commercial diving, ROV operations, subsea survey, marine construction, and wet and hyperbaric welding services to clients across the Middle East, Caspian Sea and Mediterranean, with a portfolio of projects that includes offshore platform work, FPSO operations, pipeline inspections, port surveys, bridge maintenance and salvage operations.
Blu Subsea holds IMCA certification alongside ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 accreditations, reflecting their commitment to operational safety and quality. Their workforce is split between office-based administrative and management staff and offshore crew including divers, ROV operators and marine engineers who deploy to project sites on a rotational basis.
This rotational crew model creates a payroll challenge that no standard HR software is designed to handle. Crew members sign on to a vessel or project at a specific date and sign off when their rotation ends. Salary is only due during signed-on periods. Crew have no annual leave, no salary deductions and no standard monthly payroll cycle — their entire compensation model is built around project-based contract dates. TrueBays built a customised crew payroll module within StackHX to handle this, alongside the standard HRMS for office staff and a full ERP covering purchasing and accounts.
